300 Aurora Open, Presented
by VEXA

AURORA, CHRISTIANA ----
Larry Tahoma blew away the field at the Aurora
Open, presented by VEXA, settling
for the lowest 72-hole score in the
history of the International Golf Tour,
and his first ever IGT Title, in
his home town!
Tahoma shot a 5-under-par 66 for a four-round
total of 24-under 260, on
a course he had known and played since
he began playing golf 15 years
ago as a child.
En route to his first win, Tahoma blistered
the familiar 6,759-yard
Royal Aurora Golf Club course, turning
a two-shot lead at the start of
the day into an eight-stroke victory over
Matthias Rothies, Jr.
Tahoma destroyed the IGT scoring record
just set two weeks ago by Craig
Proteroe (-20) at the Whitlam Open, beating
that mark by a comfortable
four shots!
The local hero won for the first time ever,
and now seems poised for the
Royal Christiana Open next week, the third
major tournament to be played
this year, an event with a history of
over 125 years.
Tahoma played the final two days in a threesome
that included Rothies,
who started the round two shots back,
and whose $270,000 christiana
crowns second place check keeps him atop
the Order of Merit, and makes
him the odds-on favorite for next week's
major.
Rothies rolled in a $120,000 birdie putt
at the 18th hole to finish
alone in second at 16-under 268, good
enough for the $270,000 christiana
crowns second prize.
Another local, Brett Neal, Altland's stalwart
Fransjuip Huskarl, and
Eastern Delgamian rookie Oskarbenhe Ferhentodo,
and another surprising
rookie, Aretasuna from Utania, tied for
third at 269.
"I had a feeling I could win here," Tahoma
said,"I know this course like
the back of my hand. I used to ride
my moped here after school and
caddie... then, when I got a chance, I
would play as many holes as I
could before dark. Later, all the
local qualifiers were held on this
course. I must have played over
1000 rounds here!"
"I am confident going into the Royal Open
next week. I know that course
very well, too, not as well as this one,
but I think the Christianan
players certainly have an advantage in
this one. I think I can win next
week too!"
Rothies said:"I am happy for Larry... he
was due, and he left little
doubt as to who was taking home the trophy.
I just tried to stay in
touch, but could not. I knew I had
to make that last putt for a lot of
Zaster, and when I did, it was almost
like winning the tournament. I am
very happy, and I will do my best in the
Open next week!"
