300 Vexaco Deucoland Open

Kaap Kierk, Deucoland (IGT
Newswire) -- Pancho McFeeley doesn't mind playing the
role of villain, just as long he keeps
winning.
Several months after stopping young teeneage
sensation Nick Leuwenzaan's charge
for the IGT Grand Championship, the charismatic
San Patrician won the
rain-shortened Vexaco Deucoland Open Sunday
with a birdie at the first playoff
hole to deny Altland's darling Pit Norling
his much sought after first win on the
IGT.
Because of heavy rain that turned bunkers
into beaches on the Kaap Kierk course,
the final round was canceled. McFeeley
and Norling, tied at 11-under 205 after 54
holes, went to the par-3 16th for the
sudden-death playoff. And it didn't last
long.
"It would have been nice for him to break
through," McFeeley said. "But I didn't
want it to be at my expense."
Pancho, hitting first, put his 9-iron from
163 yards about 18 feet left of the
hole.
Norling selected an 8-iron, but caught
it just a little heavy. The ball was headed
right for the flag until it came up short
in the bunker, about 4 inches away from
a lip that was 10 inches high, giving
him virtually no shot.
>From the bunker, Norling opened the blade,
but the ball caught the top of the lip
and spun back into the sand. He
blasted his next shot out to 8 feet.
McFeeley left no doubts as he made his
lengthy birdie putt to win his second IGT
event after the gripping duel with 19-year
old Leuwenzaan last year left the San
Patrician with the IGT Grand Championship
title.
"Quick and easy," Norling said, whose spirited
quest to win on Tour has been well
documented in the press. "I guess
at least I am getting closer... I wish we had
all 18 holes to play this out, with a
sudden death, anything can happen, and luck
plays too much of a role. But my
hat's off to Pancho, he has shown once more that
he is the best of the best under pressure!"
"In a playoff, you don't have a chance
to recover from an unfortunate break,"
McFeeley said. "The lie Pit had made it
very difficult for him, but you've got to
hit it solid in situations like this one."
It was not a total loss for Norling, the
$302,400 Christiana Crowns he earned
Sunday put him in great position on the
money list from the getgo, and both
players are obviously ready for the big
tournament this week, the Vexillium
Masters at the prestigious Aurelius National
Golf Club in Westria.
"[The win is] a big weight off my shoulders,"
McFeeley said. "I no longer have to
heed to the pressure of my fans demanding
me to win, and can now concentrate on
playing on my own terms. This lets
me know there are good things coming down the
road. I am definitely ready for
the Masters, and to win my second Major!"
McFeeley earned $504,000 Christiana Crowns
for his victory, and is now the
lowest-odds favorite for Aurelius in the
Montroy Bookmakers Exchange.
Another Altlander, Fransjuip Huskarl, and
Neoliliani Kirinas Bedinsson tied for
third, two strokes out of the lead.
They were among 19 players within five shots
of the leaders who never got a chance
to make up ground on the final day.
The IGT decided not to wait another day
to squeeze in 18 holes, because the
forecast was just as bad for Monday and
Tuesday, and with players preparing for
the Vexillium Masters next week, the sentiment
was to rather end the tournament
early in a playoff.
While the local favorite Deuco players
did reasonably well, the Westrians were
totally missing in action, with only Charlie
Von Chicken breaking into the top-20,
in what was the worst ever turnout for
Westria in an IGT event, which is even more
disappointing playing so close to home.
They have their work cut out to perform
at next week's big event, the Vexillium
Masters, on home soil! Remarkable debut
by Niokolan rookie Horace Gelulola, who
starts his IGT careeer off with a top-ten
finish. Gelulola took full advantage
of his knowledge of the course, as he has
been training here in Kaap Kierk for the
past two years.
