300 Odessos Gentlemen's
Club Classic
The Gentlemen's Club, Portescuro,
Caboteniasa
PORTESCURO, CABOTENIASA ---
The first ever IGT event in the Western Hemisphere
ended with a peculiar and capturing battle
between two Brolecians! As many of the
top-ranked players had decided not to
make the long trip around the world to play
in this week's Odessos Gentlemen's Club
Classic in Caboteniasa, and next week's
Id'S Oylof Feniz Open in Feniz, it was
a great opportunity for some of the
emerging players to make a mark and earn
themselves some serious money, or even a
win... However, this tourney did
not produce a first-time winner, like may have
been suspected, but instead saw the winner
of the 299 Satosan Open, Guillaume
Ouesreche, practically be handed the victory
by his unfortunate compatriot Lance
Chriponsi:
Ouesreche, after watching Chriponsi
miss three chances at a playoff victory, made
a 10-foot par putt on the fourth extra
hole Sunday to make the Odessos Gentlemen's
Club Classic his second IGT title.
Ouesreche survived going into the water
on the first playoff hole and won it
despite hitting into the stands behind
the green on the last extra hole.
Ouesreche started the final round with
a one-shot lead over Chriponsi, but the two
ended regulation tied at 13-under 275.
Chriponsi, who was looking for his first
TOUR victory ever, had a final-round 71
at the 7,108-yard Gentlemen's Club Course
in Portescuro. His putter did him in in
the playoff as he missed opportunities
for the win on each of the first three
holes.
On the final playoff hole, the 421-yard
10th, Ouesreche hooked his tee shot into a
bunker and his second shot went into the
grandstands. He took a drop, chipped
within 10 feet and made the putt. Chriponsi,
whose second shot was over the green,
then missed a putt from about the same
distance.
Ouesreche, who continues to outshine his
higher-esteemed countryman "Leopard"
Birch, earned $504,000. Chriponsi,
who has more or less stayed out of the
spotlight so far, won $302,400, his biggest
cheque ever.
Peter Kilet, with a final-round 69 placed
as best Smallickan player, and
Westermarc's Timmie Huang, with a 70,
surprisingly tied for third at 276, one
stroke in front of Eastern Delgamian talent
Ballhoonhe Beobidhenhe and
Solanchatkan Andreas Chimes.
The playoff started at the par-4 18th and
it looked bad for Ouesreche when his
second shot was short and went into the
water -- while Chriponsi was on the green
-- thinking two putts would win the tournament.
But Ouesreche's fourth shot got him close
and he ran in the bogey-saving putt
while Chriponsi three-putted from about
40 feet, leaving his second putt on the
lip.
Chriponsi got his second chance at victory
on No. 10 when he hit his second shot
within five feet of the hole and he pulled
it to the left. Ouesreche held with a
par and they returned to No. 18 for the
third playoff hole.
This time, Ouesreche went over the green
with his second shot but saved par and
Chriponsi missed a 5-foot birdie putt
that would have wrapped it up once again.
Ouesreche had a one-stroke lead in regulation
until he bogeyed No. 17, when his
chip shot from just off the green went
well past the hole.
Chriponsi settled for a par and a share
of the lead.
That brought the co-leaders to the final
regulation hole, where both players
recovered with par-saving putts to force
the playoff.
Guillaume Ouesreche commented on his second
win: "I am very pleased. Many people
thought that my win at the Satosan Open
last year was a fluke... I did not do
great the rest of the season, but now
that I won my second tournament, I think I
have proven that I can play with the best.
It was a great battle with Lance all
the way, we are good friends, and I feel
for him. His putter deserted him big
time, and I just tried to hang in there!"
Chriponsi remarked: "Before this week,
I would have been thrilled to know that I
will finish second, but after what happened,
a very bitter taste remains. That
putter is definitely going to hit the
landfill soon. I am disgusted with these
missed putts. What can I say, I
blew it."
