300 Sensation Cola Lexicon
Islands Open
Hawkins Ridge Golf Club,
Winlack, Lexicon Islands
WINLACK, LEXICON ISLANDS:
Lasken Lumle was facing a real dilemma
this week: should he play in the
incomprable Royal Christiana Open,
where the world's best players compete
for this year's third major
championship and the oldest title of golf
in the historical birthplace
of the game, or should he play in the
inaugural and only IGT event
played in his native Lexicon Islands,
taking the opportunity of most of
the star players competing in the Royal
Christiana Open to try and
finally win his first IGT event beating
a weaker field?
Patriotism finally prevailed for Lumle,
who joined all his Lexican IGT
colleagues, who had also chosen to play
at home instead of trying to
qualify for the Christiana Open (Lumle
was the only Lexican player
exempt from qualifying). Not without
second thoughts, though, as the
top players were drawing all the spotlight
in Christiana, Lumle also at
times wished he was there. But as
it turned out in the end, it was the
right decision: Lasken Lumle is
now a winner on the IGT, and not only
that, but also in his native country!
"I really sweated this one" said Lumle,
"I basically was going to be
REALLY disappointed of I had done anything
but finished in the top-3
here, skipping the Open and all... that
was a tough decision, and I
can't say that I would not have liked
to be there. What an unfortunate
scheduling situation to have two of my
favorite tournaments going up
against each other. But I made the
decision, and committed myself to
doing my very best here. Now that
I came away with my first win, I am
of course thrilled! It was worth
missing the Open for this!" he beamed.
Part of the overall impressively strong
Lexican contingent, Lumle had to
hold off a late challenge from second-round
leader Kalesthesian Vinitor
Kalviack. Lumle had taken the lead
with a birdie on the 4th hole, after
also birdying 1 and 3. But Kalviack
caught up with birdies on 14, 16,
and 17. A final birdie on 18 in
a bogey-free round of 68, however, was
enough for Lumle to deny Kalviack the
win by one shot.
The $360,000 christiana crowns winners
check is the smallest on the IGT.
but Lumle didn't mind: "It's the biggest
check I ever cashed. But
what's even more important to me is the
win. We all dream of winning,
and to do it here at home, is just the
best!"
