300 Royal Ordlandic Open
Royal Copernicus Country
Club, Copernicus, Ordland
COPERNICUS, ORDLAND - Niokolo Koban Piter
Youlduahe was the surprise
winner of the first ever Royal Ordlandic
Open today played at the Royal
Copernicus Country Club in Ordland.
The unknown Nuropian shot a 2-under
69 Sunday to win the tournament by six
strokes and earn his first
victory on the tour - yet another rookie
to win on the IGT this year,
after Rugro Bilau, Josen Antanavo, and
Ballhoonhe Beobidhenhe.
''It's all about winning,'' said Youlduahe,
who had never before
finished in the top-10 of an IGT event.
''Winning is it out here. It's
the greatest feeling. It's what you hit
those extra balls for on the
range.''
Youlduahe finished at 14-under-par 270.
Whitlamite star Jeff Orford shot his best
round of the tournament, a 65
that included 4-under on the back nine,
to finish in a five-way tie for
second at 8-under 276.
The tournament was missing none of the
big names, but for some reason,
the leader board did not abound with familiar
names, with a few
exceptions.
Youlduahe got off to a quick start on the
course and distanced himself
from the group. He eagled No. 3 to take
a four-stroke lead over the
fast-charging Brolecian Mendelsonn, who
birdied Nos. 1 and 2.
Youlduahe nailed an eight-iron 143 yards
directly into the hole for his
only eagle of the tournament. He shrugged
his shoulders in disbelief as
the gallery roared.
''It was right at it. I heard a clank and
I didn't know if it hit
somebody or went in,'' Youlduahe said.
''It was awesome. It was
extremely lucky, but it's where I was
aiming.''
Gelfinger, local star Galinheira and Aros
Mark Krall, who each entered
the last round three strokes behind, struggled
early and never
threatened.
''Piter deserved to win. It was his day,''
Gelfinger said. ''It was
obviously a difficult day for me. I never
seemed to get in rhythm.''
Youlduahe bogeyed No. 4 and No. 9 to stay
even as he made the turn. He
got his first birdie of the afternoon
with a 6-foot putt on No. 12, and
added birdies on the 15th and 18th to
shoot in the 60s for the fourth
straight day.
''The first win is the hardest. I'm really
glad I had a five-shot lead
on the final hole,'' Youlduahe said. ''I
never got out of my comfort
zone.''
"Coming here, I did not really expect to
challenge for the win, to be
honest, but I knew I was playing well
right now, and when I started to
move to the top, I wanted to do my best.
I was able to concentrate very
well, and pulled it off!"
It was the first win for a player from
Niokolo Koba, and it puts
Youlduahe in perfect position to also
become the first NK player to make
the Realm Golden Chalice team.
Michael Bobone was the best Ordlandic player,
finishing in the large
group tied for second place, almost earning
CC200,000, yet never really
challenging for the win.
