300 Schnysna Vexillium Championship of Golf
Norbay Vistas Golf Club, Karoktin, Guldavya, Eastern Zartania

KAROKTIN, EASTERN ZARTANIA -- Evan Burchard played many good shots Sunday afternoon. But none was as important as his pressure-packed wedge to the treacherous tiered 17th green.

Burchard was leading the Schnysna World Golf Championship at the time. His nearest
challengers -- Quincy Holland, Rod Sinclair, and Pancho McFeeley (all major champions!) to name a few -- had minutes earlier met their dimise, figuratively, from there.

Burchard's ball sailed over the slick, sloping surface and settled just behind the green. But he managed to get up and down for one of just three pars made by the final eight players to punctuate the biggest victory of his career.

"It's a huge win," said the Christianan who closed with a 69 on Sunday for a total of
11-under-par 277. "What makes this so special is the quality of players here this week."

This was Burchard's second victory on the IGT this year, and the $1 million Christiana
Crowns first prize moved him way up on the inal money list.

Burchard won't have to wait long for the next one, either. He will team with either Larry Tahoma or Quincy Holland to represent Christiana at the World Cup of Golf next month.

McFeeley, the only player with a realistic chance of catching Matthias Rothies, Jr. in the Order of Merit had he won, finished alone in second at 9-under par. Lendosan Josen
Antanavo and Chakri Subhas Sunilam were another stroke back and tied for third.

Burchard later called the 17th "controversial" but added "it adds to the flavor of this
course and this event." He speaks from experience, too -- two days earlier he had made an 8 there after rinsing two balls in the pond that guards the green and consequently found himself nine shots out of the lead as Saturday began.

When he came to the tee on Sunday, Burchard was two strokes ahead of Sinclair and the rest of the field. Holland had already hit his approach there into the water -- twice -- when he was just one shot back. McFeeley met a similar fate after getting a free drop from a drainage ditch after unleashing a tee shot that was barely inbounds.

"Somebody was looking down on me there to get a free drop," McFeeley admitted. "I hit a
poor drive and that was probably the best 6 I 've made in my life."

In the misery-loves-company department, both balls launched by Sinclair and his playing
partner, Michael Bobone of Ordland, also failed to stay on dry land. The final eight
players, in fact, would play the 17th hole in an astonishing 10 over.

Burchard's decision had already been made. He wanted to protect his two-stroke advantage
-- even as he waited for Sinclair and Bobone to take their drops. So he laid up and took
out his L-wedge for the 77-yard shot.

"I was really surprised at how far the ball flew on my third shot," said Burchard, who
estimated the ball traveled at least 90 yards. "Maybe there was a bit of adrenaline going there. But I made a good up-and-down there from the back of the green."

The conclusion of the Schnysna World Golf Championship also marks the conclusion of the
exciting "official" 300 IGT Season, which has certainly been memorable, and produced many deserving champions.  Stay tuned, however, for additional unofficial events in 300, and, of course, for the NEW 301 season, which will be better than ever!
