After both players parred the first three playoff holes, Kresnick drove
into the rough on the par-5 17th, hit back into the fairway and reached
the green with a 225-yard shot. 

The Solanchatkan ended up saving par with a 12-foot putt, but Antanavo
hit his third shot within 8 feet and made the putt to claim his first
IGT victory, a little surprisingly.  Kresnick was also vying for his
first ever win on the IGT.

Kresnick suffered some adventures down the stretch: he played out of a
hazard on the 15th hole for a bogey, then missed a 12-foot birdie putt
that would have won the tournament on the last hole of regulation. 

Returning to the 18th for the first playoff hole, he missed almost the
identical putt and both players parred. They did the same on the second
playoff hole, the 15th. 

 "I had plenty of chances out there today and didn't make any of them.
It was a pretty dry day," Kresnick said. 

"There's not much you can do really. You have to make a few putts and I
didn't. That's the way it goes. I'll be back." 

Antanavo missed a 12-foot birdie attempt on the third playoff hole, the
16th, while Kresnick hit over the green, but chipped back within a foot. 

On No. 17, Antanavo drove up the fairway, laid up in front of the green
and chipped to where he would make the winning putt! 

"Fabulous!" exclaimed the Lendosan champion, "This is very unexpected. 
Eugen was playing well, and I didn't think I would catch him.  It was a
close battle.  I can't believe that I am an IGT champion now!" - the
Lendosan had only been 149th on the Order of Merit previously, but his
540,000 CC winner's cheque will move him up considerably. 
Interestingly, Kresnick was only one spot better before this tournament,
lying 148th.

Although all of the big names who did not play at the Gylpmijsterscips
Rondspel in Altland this week were present here in Luka, not too many
big names were seen on the leader board all week.  The journeymen of the
IGT had a great opportunity to score big instead, and they did.  The
local fans were treated to an overall good performance from their 6
competing compatriots, all of which made the cut.  

The much hoped-for win or top place by an Utanian golfer this week,
however, did not arrive.  Rannatosu and Pennenton placed solidly in the
top-10.  Perhaps a little disappointing Amea Aretasuna, who was pulled
in all directions by the media, and probably had difficulties
concentrating on the task a hand.  Great showing by all the rookie
players, N'Banj, Uroja, and Gaddich, who all made the cut and some nice
cash as well.

With the success of this year's Utanian Open, the future of golf looks
bright in this young nation!
