CAVALERA, DISONDA ---- Just
when it looked like the host team from Altland would challenge the favored
Whitlamite duo of Jeff Orfoed and Rod Sinclair at the Strada Motors Vexillium
Cup of Golf, Sinclair added an exclamation point to his already great year
by sinking a 40-foot birdie putt Sunday on the 11th hole. The putt took
the wind out of Pit Norling and Nels Kepparketl's sails, and Whitlam coasted
in at 34 under par, three better than the Altlanders.
"I thought we struck the ball well today,
but I didn't putt so well," Sinclair said. "My
partner over here bailed me out time and
time again. Thank goodness that he was there
because I didn't hit good putts — I either
ran wide or left them short."
Twenty-four nations competed in the event,
which mixed alternate-shot and four-ball play. Players had to deal with
blustery winds, searing temperatures and threats of rain.
Norling and Kepparketl finished with 68
on the day for a 257. Armatirion's Vince
Pickering, an IGT regular, joined with
sensational newcomer Robert Matthewman to take
third place after a final round 67 for
a 265.
Eastern Zartanians Michael DuBraal and
Anatoly Ipsi shot a closing 68 for 22-under 266 for fourth place. Christiana's
Evan Burchard and Larry Tahoma finished in fifth with a 70 for a 268 total.
The Strada Motors Vexillium Cup of Golf was indeed a great success.
