Match commentary:
In an odd game, Lexicon does what they need to!
On paper, Ras Lanarch did not stand a chance. In reality, they
did not
also, and they really did not have but two real chances to score in
this
game, mostly confined to their own half of the field. Lexicon
was
clearly the better team, and they controlled the match, but Ras Lanarch
very cleverly defended, essentially with 10 men, Northern Gronk-style,
and thus, they almost pulled off another good surprise. A scoreless
draw would have been all Ras Lanarch needed to win their group, and
they
were out to get it... and almost succeeded!
Despite Lexicon's superiority, they had a hard time getting a clear
shot, as a Lanarchian was always there, defending. Ras Lanarch
really
spent most all of its effort in the defense. If it hadn't been
for a
spiprited quick attack by Filentoz and Raxxon, with the young Kilos
shooting a bomb past Upton shortly before the break, Ras Lanarch might
well be your group champions now!
But Lexicon DID manage to score, and after much of the same in the
second half, both teams left the pitch more or less satisfied.
Ras
Lanarch did not tie, but that was a dream result anyways - they have
a
wild card chance now. And Lexicon domintaed, although it did
not
reflect in the score, and won the group with ease, moving on in the
Copa.
This was the final first round match of Ordland '99. NOVEFA will
now
determine fixtures and dates for the wild card games, as well as the
quarter finals!
