Match commentary:
Westria convinces as they steal the away win!
In a rematch of the Vexillium Cup second round game, Westria was playing
at Mauretanie in the first leg of the quarter finals. Overall,
the
Diamonds continued their impressive stretch of play, as they cleverly
paced the game and came away with an away win that almost certainly
guarantees them a spot in the semifinals, barring a major upset by
Mauretanie IN Westria.
The star of the game, as it kicked off anyways, was Khaled, now
nicknamed "The Demon" for the events surrounding his hattrick against
Djeriga, in which the Djerigan players were afraid of him, since his
name means "Demon" in Djerigan... with the Djerigans subsequently
announcing him a devilish creature that will have to face Moun's wrath!
Anyways, the Diamonds began making pressure early on, but lacked the
necessary luck to pull ahead until the 30. minute, when Hallsetter
headed in a long pass from Theunissen directly, almost deflected by
the
MAU goalie, but still good enough. Westria did not let up, and
again,
Team MAU could thank their lucky stars that the score kept not going
up
against them.
Then, something VERY strange happened in the 38. minute: Khaled
was
about to lauch an offensive move, setting up the ball on the run, when,
all of a sudden, like he had been struck by lightning, he seemed to
twitch heavily, and collapse completely on the field, face-first into
the grass, where he remained motionless!! The stunned players
were
looking on, as ref Besecki stopped the game. As players tried
to talk
to him without avail, the samaritan crew came out very quickly... no
response from Khaled, however, who seemed to be barely breathing and
was
unconscious. The situation was serious, and the first aid team
quickly
removed him on a stretcher to the always waiting emergency helicopter,
on which he was rushed to Oran General Hospital. The latest word
from
there was that he was in critical condition, and still unconscious,
but
no cause for his sudden collapse was given. Very strange indeed,
especially considering the Djerigan statements, threatening Moun's
revenge on Khaled... oh, well.
Marelli came in for Khaled, and the game went on, although from there,
Mauretanie was never wuite the same. Westria now was clearly
in
control, and only did the needful to finish the game off in the second
half. They would not score again, but then, they were not exactly
trying either. They took full advantage of the befuddled mauretanien
team, who surely were wondering how their friend and colleague was
faring, and whether there could possibly be any truth to Moun's
revenge???
Westria will host MAU next in Cronenbourgh, and the Diamonds can be
expected to advance. Hopefully, we will get good news on the
condition
of Khaled soon. NOVEFA expresses its best wishes to him and his
family.
