Match commentary:

Westria rallies late to win the battle of the new faced teams!

This game was destined to become a classic, as it is an epic clash
between two of the greatest superpowers in football on Vaxillium today!
This was the first ever meeting between Dascunya (the reigning Western
Hemisphere Cup of Nations Champions), and Westria (the newly crowned
Copa Vexanova Champions) - both masters of their individual regions!
This game was the highlight of the celebrations this weekend to
acknowledge the reunifiaction of Dascunya, and the subsequent
reunification of one of the strongest soccer teams on the planet.

After the civil war, Leaman, Indiazan, Trifade and more Dascunyan star
footballers left football. Leaman is now the president of the FC
Danheim, Indiazan is the President of the Dascunyan Football Federation
and Trifade is the President of the Federated States Council of Sports.
A new generation has joined the national team.
Westria had also made some significant changes to their overall roster,
and many of the new players saw action today.

The game was fast and technically advanced, just as would be expected.
An incredible 95,600 spectators had crammed into the Olympic Stadium of
Danheim to celebrate the sport.  Dascunya was off to a good start, as
Terenkovitz headed in a flank from Valdinho to put them up 1-0 in just
the 12. minute.  But Dascunya's enthusiasm was reduced a little just 6
minutes later, as after a misunderstanding in the Dascunyan defense
(still not too familiar playing together for sure), Westrian midfield
routinier Nadeschney took advantage, and evened the game.

Dascunya tried to turn on the pressure, however, and for a good while,
they played around the Diamonds and were in control of the match, very
impressively showing little signs of their relative inexperience.  The
legendary Favio Diva was once again the hero, as he scored in a
beautiful solo sprint in the 30. minute, to once again bring Dascunya up
2-1.  Westria then seemed to regroup, and grasp better on the situation,
keeping the match more even into the break.

In the second half, both teams were pushing hard, trying to force a
decisive goal or two.  Diva was on the move, looking very dangerous in a
trick hook around Dülingen, when Nadeschney stopped him via foul, just
inside the box... Of course, Diva would take the shot himself, and
safely convert for the 3-1 for the home team, under the tremendous
cheers of the loyal fans!  Westria was in trouble now, two behind with
less than half an hour to go!

This is where the Diamonds showed their real class:  just moments after
they suffered the penalty, rookie Guydenvaldt scored the 2-3 following a
brilliant fake by Vraseydenhout, who could have taken the shot himself -
instead, he short bunted the ball, out of reach for the Dascunyan
goalie, to the side, right before Guydenvaldt, who had the honor of
scoring in the first ever game he played!  A few minutes later,
Hallsetter came in to relief the rookie, who had played very well, and
Westria launched its final offensive thrust, trying to salvage the game!
Salamanta managed to somehow poke the leather past new goalie Traüp, in
a moment of defensive confusion on the Dascunyan side, and all of a
sudden, the match was tied at 3 a piece again, with anyting possible.
Dascunya seemed slightly shocked that their two-goal lead had vanished,
and played visibly more nerveous from that point on...

Aguado came in for the overall disappointing Valdinho, and now it was
Dascunya launchng the offensive - except, Westria's offensive was STILL
ongoing as well!  Followed a great 10 minutes of suspenseful
sudden-death type football, with both teams taking great chances, and
wasting chances too.  In the 87. minute, the key moment came, when
Oliveira stopped Dülingen in the box, perhaps unnecessarily, as Dülingen
would have had to contend with two more defenders, and rightfully the
ref called the penalty kick:  Dülingen took it himself (what a pressure
shot!), and although Traüp guessed the corner, he just barely touched
the ball, which narrowly passed into the goal, hitting the inside of the
right goal post!!  Westria was ahead for the first and most important
time: at the end!  Dascunya seemed to slump from there on, and could not
pull themselves together to try one more time.  Westria took the win
after an incredible come-from-behind effort!

This win marks another milestone for the best team of Vexillium, who
further cement their number one ranking.  For Dascunya, a tremendous
show of talent and potential!  Without the defensive blunders, which
cost them dearly, they played a remarkable game.  Imagine how good they
can be when they have played together for a while, and gained some more
experience!  Watch out for them!

Westria will now take a break from international team play, as the
domnestic league season will be winding down.  In Dascunya, the new
league is about to start now.
