WHO CAN STOP BROLECIA????

This was by no doubt the greatest ever victory for Brolecia.  Playing
before a virtual cauldron of their mad home fans, the hosts declassed
the Vexillium champions by an incredible 4-0 score... Brolecia somehow
held on to the fantastic form they had shown in the Quarterfinals
against Namuria, and once again were at their very best, whipped into a
frenzy by their fanatic compatriot fans.  Whitlam got a bit of a raw
deal, as they had three excellent scoring chances in the first half
which narrowly and unluckily missed... had they scored, perhaps the
dynamics of the match could have gone the other way, who knows.  But
instead it was Brolecia who played with the flow, energized, and
seemilngly could do nothing wrong.  Captain Dominic Ozi was also at his
best today, effectively neutralizing the awesome trio
Armstark-Walford-Blacklock.  The at times tired looking Whitlam (coming
off a tough overtime thriller against UNT) tried to regain momentum by
bringing in their new gronkian stars, but Brolecia was not to be shaken
today... the home team ended up with a glorious 4-0 victory, and goes
into the finals as the top-favorites... who will be able to stop this
runaway train??

WHO CAN STOP WESTRIA????

Revenge was sweet for the Diamonds today, as they ended up dishing back
out the humiliation Eastern Delgamia handed them last year at the
VexGames!  The 6-0 was a bitter pill to swallow for the idealistic and
free-spirited Delgamians, but they had similar forces working against
them than Whitlam did in the other semifinal match today:  Westria was
simply flawless, with each member of that team performing at world-class
levels, while Eastern Delgamia could not manage to break their
momentum.  To make matters worse, Delgamia lost Piccininho in the 23.
minute to a red card, reducing their team to 10, and later had to
sideline their best striker, Abeiradela with a strained hamstring...  it
just all went against them.  A penalty given in the early second half
did not help either!

A very satisfying win for Westria, who redeemed themselves for their 0-3
loss of the Bronze medal last year.  Eastern Delgamia left the pitch
with hanging heads, but they today were the victims of a flawless
opponent as well as a good load of misfortune.  They will surely be
threatening in the Bronze medal match once more!

Westria will now face off against the other high-flying team, Brolecia
for the GOLD MEDAL!!  What a match that promises to be!!

Game 355, Whitlam - Eastern Delgamia; 07-15-300 (BRONZE MEDAL MATCH):

Played at: Black Road, North Liston, Brolecia
Attendance: 41,000
Referee: Wilfried Astnehmer (Westria)

(FRW, 86.)

NO MEDAL THIS TIME FOR EASTERN DELGAMIA!

Both these teams playing for the bronze medal were clearly shaken by
their semifinal losses, which were both of humiliating and unfortunate
proportions... but today, it was a new day, and the question was who
would overcome the disappointment and go on to at least win the bronze
medal.

And the question was answered clearly, as Whitlam showed their class as
the VexCup champions, they pretty much set the accents in this match
from the getgo, with EDE clearly still ailing from their horrifying 0-6
loss to Westria.  EDE only seemed to regain their spirits in the later
second half, as Ie closed the gap to one, but Whitlam would not allow
them to get any closer, sealing their medal win with another late goal.
Sadly, no medal for EDE this time, but, boy, did they come close once
again!!  Whitlam takes the honors and returns home with the bronze medal
to put next to their Vexillium Cup trophy!

Attendance: 99,900

A THRILLER, AND MORE GOLD FOR BROLECIA!

This was a true clash of the giants... both teams had shown INCREDIBLE
play the last two matches, Brolecia scoring 9-0 against opponents
Namuria and Whitlam, and Westria scoring 12-0 against opponents San
Patricio and Eastern Delgamia!!  Incredible stuff, and these two
superstar teams battled each other today for the ultimate VexGames
honors, the GOLD MEDAL.  Brolecia of course, the defending champions,
having won their first gold in Morania 299!  Westria looking for total
redemption of their VexGames disappointment from a year ago, when they
lost the Bronze to Eastern Delgamia, who they pulverized this year in
the Semifinal.

And the match left nothing to be desired as once again both teams were
at their best... too bad there had to be a loser at all!  Brolecia
whipped the home crowd into a frenzy to begin, scoring in the 29. minute
through Howard.  The match remained even and fast-paced, with many
chances and superb technical play on both sides.  Westria managed to
equalize through Patrick Nadeschney in the 36. minute, and the two
titans remained mired in intense battle.

The second half brought more of the same, Brolecia taking charge at
first, but Westria having the better chances later in the half.
Nevertheless, no score in the second half, and the match went into
overtime, to the delight of fans worldwide, who could not get enough of
this exciting star-studded matchup!

Interestingly, both teams did not substitute for overtime, and decided
to stick with their strongest formations respectively.  Westria looked
like the winner when Guydenvaldt received a long pass and had a free
shot on goal, but his ball would hit the crossbar only, and the
Brolecians would start a quick counter.  From that counter, Horunard
scored the decisive blow in the 111. minute, heading in a flank from
Montagne, deflected by a Westrian defender, no chance for Hasenpfeffer.

Westria was all over their opponent for the remainder of the match, but
the host team effectively put up a wall, and the Diamonds were unable to
break through to equalize the match again.  Under deafening roars from
the crowds, referee Hugo blew the final whistle, with the entire
stadium, or rather, the entire city, no the entire country breaking out
into a mad celebration... spectators climbed the fences, and started
streaming onto the field, mingling with the jubilant home team players,
shooting off fireworks... the security forces could not contain the
masses, and before long, the pitch was full of people celebrating.
Finally the police would get the situation under control. keeping the
people from climbing the fence using hoses.

Meanwhile the celebrations were in full swing on the field, with all the
players being hoisted in the air, their shirts ripped off as souvenirs.
It took a good 20 minutes for the forces to clear the pitch of
intruders.  The Brolecians, donning their jackets instead of their
uniform shirts, received the golf medals from Liston Mayor Chris
McWalter and IVEFA President Baldriarch K. "Gooooooal" Kickins.  The
Westrian team also received their silver medals, and some nice applause
from the Brolecian crowds - they had done a great job, but lost out to
the home team advantage of the Brolecians.  One of these world class
teams had to lose today.  Congratulations to both teams!
