MORE EASY GOING FOR WESTERMARC!

The Serpents, much like in their match agaist the Kongren Geckos, never
really had to work hard in this match, despite an early shock as Ras
Lanarch actually surged ahead thanks to a penalty after a hand play from
Seizheng, with Dukhlas doing the honors.  Once the Serpents caught up,
they were once again coasting to the end, with their second formation
enough to hold off the mostly amateur players from Fiarria.  Not a very
interesting match, Ras Lanarch seemed more or less resigned to their
fate, and were by no means at their best today, at which they could have
perhaps managed to gain some more momentum after their early penalty
goal, and turn the match their way, maybe causing an upset through pure
adrenaline.  But it never happened today, standard win for Westermarc
instead.

NICE MATCH, BUT THE EXPECTED OUTCOME!

Not too many spectators made it out to this match on a rather dreary
day, but those who came were treated to a very entertaining match.
Niokolo Koba immediately took charge from the start, but were unable to
score due to some excellent very defensive play from the Geckos, who
thwarted attack after attack, most times through pure heart, chasing the
NK players all over.  It was thus not until the 41. minute that NK
finally went ahead though Kipsu.

While NK scored again in the 67. minute, the match was everything but
dull.  Kongren actually made a push after that, and all of a sudden it
was the Warriors who looked in trouble.  Nobody in the crowd seemed to
remember that they were actually two ahead.  Things got really
interesting as G'Navanana scored the gapcloser for Kongren, and the
Geckos kept raging on, this time, it was NK who was going on the
defensive.  But not for long.  The NK team took heart once again, and
Dourane made it all clear in the 83. minute with a nice head bunt.
Kongren kept trying till the end, but it was NK taking an ultimately
deserved win, which will now pitch them against Westermarc in the next
round for the group win and advencement to the semifinals!

Group A Standings:

1. WMC  2 0 0 6:2 +4 6

Referee: Niklas Bruzburger (SCK)
Goals: Mertz (SNX, 51.), Kvagenbengt (SNX, 79.)
Yellow cards: Kunappa (LOM, 29.), Wasvig (SNX, 44.), Krigrikrur (LOM,

SANX SNATCHES VICTORY!

Sanx managed to pull off a somewhat surprising win in this duel of the
Western-Hemisphere dwarf Dominions through some spirited offensive play
and the help of a red card.  Lombriga was clearly trying to pull away in
the early going, but failed to find a recipe against the defense well
organized by Gadebirk, and a flawless Dannemarck in the Sanx goal.
Lombriga's inability to score during their dominating phase was to prove
costly later.  The match was tied at halftime.

Sanx pulled ahead after continually pressuring after the break, and
continued to do so afterwards.  The key moment came when Wasvig took a
shot at goal, leaving Lombrigan goalie Mundhy beaten, but then Rek in a
reflex action, standing nearest to the ball approaching the goal,
reached out and bunted the ball just outside the goal, using his fist!
This goal-robbery was penalized with a red card, and the ref had to calm
the angry Sanxian players down a bit.  One man short, the Lombrigans did
not seem too deterred, and instead began pressuring their opponents now,
pushing for the equalizer.  They would not succeed, however, ultimately
suffering from their one-man shortage.  Instead, Sanx scored again, for
their first ever win in their only second international match... pretty
impressive.  But: they will have to face Westria next, theoratically for
the group win!  But that will surely be tough for the Ataraxians,
despite their win today.

Group B Standings:

1. WES 1 0 0 3:0 +3 3
2. SNX 1 0 0 2:0 +2 3
3. LOM 0 0 2 0:5 -5 0

Game 365, Solanckatka - Oost-Otago:

MATCH 9 (Group C):

The Technical Information:

Final score: SOLANCHATKA 1 - OOST-OTAGO 0
Played at: Weigand-Alleé Arena, Yaquaranda, Kalesthesia
Attendance: 37,400
Referee: Tomas Reutther (SNX)
Goals: Duran (SCK, 79.)
Yellow cards: Dabeng (SCK, 33.), Shashana (SCK, 65.)
Red card: Shashana (SCK, 65.)
Substitutions: none

SOLANCHATKA WINS AGAINST ADVERSITY!

Things did not go too well for Solanchatka in this match, seemingly, as
the Strikers had to contend with a surprisingly feisty Oost-Otago team,
which apparently had totally forgotten about their relatively clear 1-5
defeat against Deucoland just days ago.  Instead, the Desert Rats showed
no respect to their higher-rated opponents, and made them sweat thorough
a very involved running game, and many changes of pace that threw SCK
off.  No team was able to secure an advantage in the first half, and the
pressure on the favorites in this match, Solanchatka, began to mound.

The Strikers had made it their goal to at least advance to the
semifinals, and obviously could not allow themselves to stumble on
OOO... but, things went from bad to worse as in the 65. minute, Shashana
received a yellow card.  No big deal, but the midfielder was furious,
and began commenting to the ref.  Reutther turned his back, but the
player kept insisting.  The ref would warn him, but Shashana was not to
be calmed.  His team mates now tried to presuade him away, which they
did.  But apparently he shouted a profanity at the ref as they were
walking apart.  Reutther zipped around as he heard it, and immediately
pulled the red!  This time, Shashana was silent, and left the pitch with
sunken shoulders.

Oost-Otago now smelled blood, but to everybody's surprise (seeing the
evenness of the match hitherto), Solanchatka now seemed to shed their
daze, and played it up, even though they were down one man!  The Rats
now were clearly in trouble, and could not at all take advantage of
their numerical superiority.  When Duran scored in the 79. minute, the
soccer world was restored, the favorites had scored their vital goal for
their vital win, which keeps them alive for their match with Deucoland,
which they have to win to advance.  If they play like they did with 10
men, they have a real chance!

Group C Standings:

1. DEU 1 0 0 5:1 +4 3
2. SCK 1 0 0 1:0 +1 3
3. OOO 0 0 2 1:6 -5 0

Game 366, Baben Bay - Udan-Woo:

MATCH 10 (Group D):

The Technical Information:

Final score: BABEN BAY 3 - UDAN-WOO 0
Played at: Tilde-Lovazal Stadium, Anthassa, Kalesthesia
Attendance: 39,400
Referee: Lorenz Vanderkippe (OOO)
Goals: Nudzmanshvili (BOB, 19.), Shecklev (BOB, 40.), Nudzmanshvili
(BOB, 55.)
Yellow cards: Keffruh (BOB, 10.), Igles (BOB, 89.)
Substitutions: none

BABEN BAY PROVE THEIR WORTH!

Their spirited play agaist host team Kalesthesia a few days ago, as well
as against the Westrian Diamonds in June, already raised some eyebrows
in the soccer world.  Today, Baben Bay finally had not just motivation,
but also luck on their sides, and scored a nice 3-0 victory over the
still bottom-ranked Udan-Woo squad, which did not manage to impress much
at all.  While there were some bright spots in the Wallabies' lineup,
most notably Tregikuan and Tipulura, it was mostly Baben Bay in control
of the match, up 2-0 before the break, extending to 3-0 in the second
half.  Neomir Nudzmanshvili, the Baben Bay striker of Savaree heritage,
was the man of the day, scoring twice, and acting as offensive whirlwind
causing havoc.  Against a team like Baben Bay, who play more physical
and close-contact, the no-foul approach by Woo seems more and more
outdated.  Opponents are taking advantage of the Wallabies'
unwillingness to physically attack, which is a big part of why they are
ranked on the bottom.  But this cultural tradition is deep within the
Udan-Wooans blood.  Perhaps as the changes that swept their nation keep
coming, even their style of play will adapt.  Since their very first
match, Woo has never received a yellow card!  But, they also never
received much winning glory...
Baben Bay leads the group, but they will only advance if Kalesthesia
loses to Udan-Woo...

Group D Standings:

1. BOB 1 0 1 3:1 +2 3
2. KAL 1 0 0 1:0 +1 3
3. WOO 0 0 1 0:3 -3 0
