Match commentary:
No surprises as Westria takes care of business!
After their narrow win over Dignania last game, all eyes were on Westria
to see whether they are having a slump! But today, they returned
to
their 'usual' form, and played very well, silencing all the critics,
even some internal ones.
Neonesia could not quite build on the success of their win against NPX.
Double scorer Ebropa was well-covered by Voyden, although it cost him
a
yellow card, and the rest of the Neonesia attack suffered a bit from
a
lack of midfield support - there simply was not a good connection
between the Neonesia backfield and their attack today, so chances were
few and far between.
Meanwhile Westria was going strong, the new additions to the starting
lineup did mostly a good job. Impressive again Vraseydenhout,
who is
dangeous from anywhere on the field, and who scored twice before being
taken off to preserve for the decisive group game against NPX, which
is
next. The Westrian defense was not very challenged due to the
lack of
constructive midfield connections by Neonesia. Despite the four
goals,
the game was not very exciting to watch, and somewhat one-sided.
Neonesia's chances to advance are still good, but they must beat
Dignania, assuming that NPX will do no more than tie with Westria.

Match commentary:
It's one of these days for Northern Phenixia!
Without a doubt, Northern Phenixia must be considered the flakiest team
on the planet: they enjoy a tremendous support at home, especially
for
their beloved Platoche, the team-"daddy", and they have produced some
good surprises. When this team has a good day, it can be VERY
dangerous, but on other days, nothing seems to work. Consistency
is
zero! Well, today, after the disheartening loss to Neonesia,
it was
once again time for a great victory! Michel Platoche decided
to start
this time! At first, Dignania was firmly in control, and everything
went to their plan, as Palliser put them into the lead early on, giving
them their much-hoped for first score. But then, Platoche and
his men
rallied, and seemingly everything they tried was a success! Platoche
played superbly again, and together with Lherbe built a tremendous
attack. Defender Issa, who was even more notable for his defensive
efforts in the second half, scored the equalizer in the 26. minute
from
a corner. Then came Platoche's moment of glory: first in
the 34.
minute, he headed in a pass from Amadou, then, just three minutes later,
again by head, for the 3-1, this time after a precise pass from Sacre!
Dignania responded by bringing in Antipodes as planned, to try and tun
the game around. But shortly thereafter, just before they went
to
break, Amadou took advantage of some confusion in the Dignanian defense,
and was just barely stopped by Snares - the free kick coming from that
foul resulted in the 4-1, Amadou scored it himself.
For Dignania, it was emergency time! For the second half, they
now
brought in Raoul, and began to play much more offensively! This
is
where Issa's defensive organization was so valuable to the Northern
Phenixians, because despite the offensive tries by Dignania, NPX kept
their goal clear, also due to another good game by goalie Higuita.
Platoche was exhausted after 56 minutes, and Ohanessian took over for
him. As he left the stadium, he received a standing ovation from
almost
all the fans present, which is remarkable, since only a few thousand
NPX citizens had made the trip here.
Ohanessian made the most of his chance to play, and scored the 5-1 from
a counter. Lherbe topped it off 10 minutes before end with another
counter-goal allowed by the offensive Dignanian style.
A disappointing result for Dignania after the promising start against
Westria, but NPX was having one of their 'frenzy' days, where all falls
into place, and Platoche played like a 20-year old, which always wears
off on his teammates, who then become encouraged and begin playing
their
best as well. This group should be still interesting. NPX
must stil
face Westria, and with a performance like today, they might well have
a
chance! Dignania must now hope for a miracle to advance.

Match commentary:
Coceira back to its impressive ways!
After the somewhat shaky start against Mosqitia, Coceira today again
proved that they are rightfully in the top-10 ranked teams of Vexillium,
and came away with a clear win that once again demonstrated their very
ornanized and cool-calculating playing style.
Niokolo Koba came into this game with high hopes after their good win
over Ancalda, but Coceira is a team of a league much higher than
Ancalda, and the Kobans had a difficult time with the technically better
Coceirans. Coceira had come prepared for a physical match, but
NK had
obviously taken the many cards from their last game to heart, and had
throttled down their rough play considerably. Coceira scored
twice in
the first half, and it became clear that NK would have their work cut
out in this match to try and make up. Diallo scored his second
goal of
the Cup in the second half, and for the next 25 minutes, it was all
NK
attacking, trying to get the equalizer. Coceira kept its cool,
however,
and a very fast counter after another failed NK attempt produced the
3-1, which was shocking for the Kobans, who had pushed so hard to try
and catch up - with the exact opposite result.
Form then on, NK, visibly frustrated with the now even more impossible
task at hand, seemed to resign themselves, and lose interest in the
game. Coceira had a relatively easy time in the last 15 minutes
of the
game, as the unapplied Kobans seemed to care less. However, Dioula
had
a great chance, abd scored on a solo, but the goal was disallowed due
to
offsides, further frustrating the team from Nuarmia.
V. Rek, who did just fine without his comrade S. Gore, then scored a
goal actually very similar to the one that was disallowed, just a few
minutes later, also suspiciously close to an offsides position, but
this
time, referee Whistler allowed it. Furious protests followed
by the
Kobans, and unfortunately Jaques Vincent's reclamations were a little
too much for Whistler, and he showed him the yellow card! Replays
off
video tape later showed that indeed the goal was legitimate, and that
the linesman's call had been corrrect.
NK then essentially resigned, and the last two goals, scored by V. Rek
and Meridion, came without much resistance at all. They just
wanted it
to be over...
Coceira now looks like they will win their group as expected.
Who the
second advancee will be is up in the air now, and should be an
interesting final round!
