60.), Hallsetter for Vraseydenhout (WES, 62.)

Match commentary:

No more magic left for NPX against a cautius Westria:

Northern Phenixia had turned some heads with their 6-1 win over Dignania
a few days ago, once again proving that if they are on their game, they
have the ability to ride their own wave and play as good as anybody.
However, today, they had another of their "indifferent" games, that
essentially missed a chance against an experimental and cautious
Westrian team.

Westria had left a lot of their key players out of the game, to avoid
injuries, and they were generally playing without taking too many
risks.  Their diminished strength and limited effort certainly would
have opened the door wide for NPX to walk through, but NPX stumbled at
the doorstep, and never reached!  Platoche decided to come in in the
second half, but he was suffering a bit from dehydration after a
diarrhea episode over the last few days.  Thus, the famous
Platoche-momentum never really came to be, and the rest of the team had
nothing to feed off of.  So Westria was able to pull off a strategic win
that finally secured them the expected group win.  They did it with
minimal effort.

This could conceivably have been Platoche's last game, as even before
the Cup there was some talk about his retirement.  Nobody knows at this
time, however.  And it certainly would have been nice to see him leave
with a great game, but... maybe he is not leaving yet!  If he does,
however, the NPX team will have to seriously regroup, and find a new
team leader!

Game 78: Neonesia-Dignania (Vexillium Cup CD'98)

IVEFA announces the result from today's match played in the Vexillium
Cup CD'98, November 13, 298:

The Technical Information:

Final score: NEONESIA 2 - DIGNANIA 1
Played in: Easton, Christiana (Sunrise Stadium)
Attendance: 49,000
Referee: Randie Stickx (Armatirion)
Goals: Icxota (NEO, 10.), Elicxa (NEO, 22.), Plenty (DIG, 41.)
Yellow cards:  Ofriwga (NEO, 33.), Ajfoga (NEO, 60.)
Substitutions: Bounty for Cook (DIG, 45.), Piveta for Ebropa (NEO, 75.)

Match commentary:

Another close one, but Dignanian opening blunders see Neonesia through
to the second round!

Things were still very much up in the air as to who would advance today
in this group.  Dignania experimented with their lineup.  The coach was
very gracious in wanting to give every one of his players the chance to
have played in a VexCup game, and they did a good job.  Unfortunately,
the pretty offensive strategy, coupled with the relative inexperience of
the starters, in the beginning of the game gave Neonesia two goals that
could have easily been avoided with some caution.  In fact, Neonesia was
not having such a great day, and in the second half, as Dignania
regrouped, the Delgamians were clearly the better team on the pitch.
Plenty had closed the gap to one before the break, and Dignania was
doing their best to at least take one point home with them, alas, their
luck was against them once more.  Besides, Neonesian keeper Ojxrala was
having a "career match" - nothing seemed to get by him today, and he
really could not have picked a better day to be in top form, as his
teammates clearly were not.

The early two goals by Neonesia both came from counters, as the
Dignanian defense was wide open, making it easy for Icxota and Elicxa to
bring them two up.  But this was pretty much all the glory the
Neonesians could claime today, and somehow they hung on to win the game.

The win of course means that Neonesia will be advancing to the second
round, facing Davenport!  Dignania's quest is over.  They raised some
eyebrows in their game vs. Westria, in which they showed a great
performance, and again today, it is clear that this team has excellent
potential in the future.
