Games 208-213 (Smalik Shootout '99 II)

Game 208: Bowdani-United Territories (11-16-299)

Bowdani vs United Territories
Stadium: Lief Stadium - Randolf Tech, Corning, Bowdani
Attendance: 44,581
Goals: Bryce (UNT), McSkimming (UNT), Ioe (BOW), Killehal (BOW), Dandoon (BOW)

Bowdani 3 - United Territories 2

The Lions came out to this game with a lot of energy in hopes of beating the
host nation, Bowdani. Early in the game it was looking bad for Bowdani as
Ewan Coyle hooked up with fellow Midfielder Coco Bryce to put the Lions up
1-0. Less than a minute later Shaun McSkimming put in a rebound after Hawk
made a diving save. Bowdani was looking down and out for this game. If
anything else could go wrong in the first half it did. Hund went up for a
header and as he came down something twisted in his ankle. Play was stopped
as he was hauled off the feild. Marc Manchoni, an unknown, was called on to
find a way to score. As the half was comming to a close Jake Ioe launched
one from the top of the box and put it in the upper right corner. Apparently
that was all Bowdani needed to give them a lift. As the second half started
it was apparent that Bowdani was ready to play. Killehal, the most dangerous
man on a soccer field, broke away from the Lions double team that hounded
him all day to make a run on the goal. The rookie Manchoni found him on the
back side and Bowdani had tied the score at 2-2. It would remain that way
until the final minute of the game. In a surprising move the Bowdani defense
made a charge and flooded the box area. The Lions, looking very confused by
this flood of people, were scrambling around trying to gain control of the
situation. This time it was Patrick Dandoon who came up from his defensive
spot to head in a high pass from Robert Marn. Bowdani had taken the lead 3-2
with less than 45 seconds left on the clock. This is how it would end.
Bowdani comes home with a win. The United Territories played a fantastic
game and should go away feeling very proud. After the game Bowdani Coach
Dale Hetleker commented,"That last thing we did was put in for very
desperate situations and this was one. We did not play well but give all the
credit to the Lions for they came out with energy and fought till the end."

Game 209: Westermarc-Brolecia (11-16-299)

Westermarc vs Brolecia
Stadium: Mountain Field Park - BSU-Rockenfield, Rockenfield, Bowdani
Attendance: 46,807
Goals: D. Ozi (BRO), Cirrus (WMC), Cirrus (WMC), Fang (WMC), Montagne (BRO)

Westermarc 3 - Brolecia 2

The Westrians came out and played like the were on fire. But it was Brolecia
that struck first as Dominic Ozi put a blistering shot shot past the out
streched arms of Nuur. Westermarc answered back as Cirrus drove in on goal
and punted one past a herd of defenders. As the first half drove on it began
to drizzle. As the Bowdani soccer fans who had traveled to watch one the the
best games in the tounament equiped themselves for the on comming downpour
the large portion of international fans got the hint and threw on some rain
gear. With about 7 minutes left in the half the skies opened up on the game.
Play became muddy and sloppy. Again it was Cirrus who happened to slip and
knock the ball into the goal. He did not even realize he scored until his
teamates jumped on him and began mud sliding. Brolecia hung on till the end
of the half. The rains kept up for the entire second half as play became
near impossible. At one point play was stopped so they could get a clean
ball. As play wore on you could tell that the Bowdani weather was taking
it's toll on both teams. Players were sliding and controling the ball became
almost impossible. Westermarc began to get the hang of short quick passes
and soon enough they converted as Fang kept his balance long enough to pop
one over the head of a sliding Davidson. The game ended that way as
Westermarc took the game 3-2 in almost impossible conditions. Both teams
joined in a friendly game of mud sliding, even the coaches got in on it
after they were dragged by their players through the mud.

Game 210: Djeriga-Namuria (11-16-299)

Djeriga vs Namuria
location: Little Field Stadium, South Watch, Bowdani
Attendance: 30,570
Goals: Ahladdin (DJR), Jaar (NAM)

Djeriga 1  - Namuria 1 (Djeriga win in second penalty shoot, 3-2)

This game was a showdown from it's creation and it proved to be just that.
Knowing that Political tensions were high between these two nations the
Bowdani Marines were stationed around the stadium to make sure no fights
broke out. The game started out with more bickering than soccer until both
teams were issued a yellow card. This game actually drew more people than
the stadium's capacity so people were sitting everywhere. Djeriga scored
first off of a mishandled ball in front of Namuria's goal. Makrana Ise had
the ball dribble off his foot as he tried to control an errant pass. Striker
Ahladdin ran up and pounded it in the back of the goal. Djeriga then began
praising Moun until the officials told them play would start without them.
Namuria kept pressuring the Djeriga defense but they would not give in. The
half ended with Djeriga up 1-0. Namuria changed strategies and within 5
minutes of the start of the second half they scored on a great one timer
from Ledrige Druvolan to Sagral Jaar. The score was tied 1-1. Play went on
at the intensity of war. As the final horn blew it was still 1-1. The first
shootout came and went as Midre Vabasta and Sagral Jaar both scored for
Namuria and Ahladdin and Olinheb scoring for Djeriga. As the second shootout
came both teams were thinking victory. Four shooters went for both teams and
no one scored. It was down to Ahmaad, from Djeriga, and Vabasta, from
Namuria. Vabasta shot and hit the cross bar. Ahmaad stepped up and hooked
the ball into the top left corner well out of reach of anyone. The Djeriga
team ran out on to the field and celebrated. A glorious win for Moun and his
followers and a great game over all.

Game 211: Davenport-West Uhlan (11-17-299)

Davenport vs West Uhlan
location: Tassamio, Caboteniasa
Attendence: 25,459
Goals: Yi (WUH), Ming Do (WUH), Rose (DAV), Alvarez (WUH), Tzeng (DAV), Harbour (DAV), Yi (WUH)

Davenport 3 - West Uhlan 4

A surprising game as Davenport was expected to power over the new kids on
the block. It was not a day for the royal to fly as West Uhlan took an early
lead on two quick goals by Yi and Ming Do. The Men in Royal charged back
with a beautiful header by Tom Rose. The score was 2-1 as the first half
came to a close. West Uhlan came out again and scored quickly as Alvarez
booted a shot into the open goal as Dooley was caught behind a crowd of
people. Things were looking bleak for Davenport until Nigel Tzeng got things
going in the 58th minutes as he converted off of a pass from Aron
Worthington. The next minute Jean Harbour took it solo to the goal and put
on a few moves as he easily put it in the back of the goal. Davenport had
tied the score 3-3. Things were looking up until forward Tom Rose collided
in mid-air with West Uhlan's Pou. Rose was knocked out and had to be taken
off the field. Daven port lost one of their best scorers. As they scrambled
to organize an attack with out Rose, West Uhlan took the opprotunity to take
the lead off the foot of Yi. West Uhlan now was faced with protecting the
lead against a very good and ill tempered Davenport squad. West Uhlan kept
their head and held off the Davenport onslaught for over 20 minutes. In the
end Davenport gave everything but luck was not shining on them that day.

Game 212: Tiger Confederacy-Drinomar (11-17-299)

Tiger Confederacy vs Drinomar
Location: Våsthammar, Caboteniasa
Attendance: 21,954
Goals: Asano (DRI), Toranso (DRI), Linet (DRI)

Tiger Confederacy 0 - Drinomari 3

The expeirence of the Drinomari squad was enough to put away the rookies.
Drinomari was in charge of this game from the start as Tenobro Asano cooly
placed one in the back of the net within a matter of seconds. The Tigers
fought back but could not break the defensive wall in front of the Drinomari
goal. Candeno Toranso put one in off of a pass from Tirio Linet to close out
the first half. The second half started with the Tigers making a desperate
charge to try to create offense but it didn't work. They tried everything
but Drinomari held fast. Drinomari's last goal was more of a nail in the
coffin than anything. Tirio Linet gave the Tiger defense a few moves to
remember as he slammed it into the back of the net. The game ended with
Drinomari winning 3-0 against a young team. The Tigers got a few good
lessons and we hope to see them again.

Game 213: Caboteniasa-Guwimith (11-17-299)

The sparks were flying as Caboteniasa pulls out the victory at home.As
Caboteniasa took the feils the sold out crowd lept to their feet and let out
a roar that shook the stadium. Caboteniasa fed off the crowds energy and
scored off of a great corner kick from Maizum Nom to Ola Fjotskank. Guwimith
fought back as Mark Vaboska sent one ripping along the ground and into the
goal. It was Guwimith who scored next as Jurg Kraichin blasted on into the
back of the net. As the half was comming to an end Akaba Agora evened up the
score at 2-2. The Caboteniasan fans were in an uproar as their team took the
field for the second half and the team responded by adding a goal right off
of the draw. Akaba Agora earned his second of the day by taking it down the
right side and sending it in to the far corner. Guwimith had experience on
their side and fought back to even the score with 10 minutes left in the
match. Jurg Kraichin launched a bomb which deflected off the post and went
in. The game ended with a 3-3 tie. As they went into the shoot out Guwimith
was looking to finish off the new upstarts but Caboteniasa had different
plans. Mark Vaboska scored for Guwimith to put the pressure on Caboteniasa.
But they responded as Maizum Nom blasted one in to tie the score once again.
It was down to the last two shooters for both teams. Borje Bohlin gave
Caboteniasa the lead as he slid the ball into the goal past the out streched
arms of Vasyenka Zbroslao. It was done to Slavochka Ankudinov to score. As
he took conrtol of the ball the fans were at their feet. He sent the ball on
target and it looked as if it would go in but Michael Perdrup lept and
tipped the ball wide. The ball bounced off the post and into the corner.
Caboteniasa had won. Perdrup was carried off the field on the shoulders of
his teammates. Guwimith played a great game but could not beat the home
team.
